Astrid lives in Cojaj, San Pedro Carchá, she is 18 years old and this year she graduated from middle school receiving a bachelor’s degree in Arts and Sciences with a focus on Education. Two years ago, she joined the group Niñas Voceras of PLAN International and together with other girls participating in different activities in their municipality have promoted the rights of girls and adolescents in social problems like teenage pregnancy and gender based violence. She has given talks in elementary schools and high schools on teenage pregnancy prevention; she was invited to give workshops on the correct use of contraceptive methods, and to share a message to young people and teenagers from different communities. This activity was organized at the municipal level. She is part of the PAZ JOVEN group where she gives talks to young people on leadership (people who were just starting to study but had to stop because of COVID-19 Pandemic). After the COVID-19 pandemic emergency, she helped in the delivery of hygiene kits to families affected by the consequences of the pandemic and was part of the Girls Out Loud campaign on Online Safety #CONECTADAS Y SEGURAS. She also shared the same themes on her social networks during October for the commemoration of the International Day of the Girl. Together with her family, they have visited a shelter enabled for people affected by the storms ETHA and IOTA, providing them with supplies, prepared cooked, and have supported children with their recreational activities and psychological support.
